Smoke Dreams

This is a cube of mammoth ivory, scrimmed on five sides. The scene depicts a lonesome Indian brave staring into the flames, dreaming of his True Love, completely unaware of the danger of the approaching bear.



The back of the cube shows the natural coloration of the exterior of the mammoth ivory; the blue comes from interaction with minerals over thousands of years.
