Soapstone Carving


A hobby new to me is soapstone carving.  My husband Benjy got
a kit for me as a Christmas present.  It included an instruction
booklet, patterns, files, and four small blocks of soapstone.
I've done two of them, a seal and a bird.  I've yet to do the 
whale and bear.  From some of the scraps, I carved some small
birds, a squirrel, a cat, and some hearts (for Valentine's Day).
After I complete the kit, I want to find a source of soapstone
and try doing some larger original works.  Here are my bird and seal:
